Graeme Charters

Graeme brings a wealth of UK and overseas experience in actuarial consultancy, insurance product development and business process. His expertise covers the full spectrum of general insurance, life assurance, and investment and pension consultancy.

 

He regularly works at board level, including in the role of Chief Actuary, and is especially adept at consulting with senior people on risk management and Solvency II compliance.

 

Graeme is a keen supporter of community rugby, and worked for many years as Chairman of the Rugby Football Referees Union.

Moira Casey

Moira has a wide-ranging background in technical and financial reporting roles with large insurers.

 

As a consultant actuary, she specialises in working with mutuals to prepare for and implement Solvency II. She is also a Non-Executive Director at the Railway Enginemen’s Assurance Society.

 

Moira loves walking, and can regularly be found in the wilds of Dartmoor or the South West Coastal Path.

Chris Smerald

Chris is a voracious troubleshooter and innovator when it comes to solving complex insurance problems. A former Chief Actuary and Chief Pricing Actuary for AIG in the UK, he is an expert at risk and capital, pricing, reserving, claims, and experience studies.

 

An international thought leader in general insurance, Chris has chaired various actuarial research committees, including the Good Actuarial Report and Sensing and Responding to Change and Nonsense for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

Penny Harris

Penny’s actuarial experience includes roles at AIG, Grant Thornton, Travelers UK, and OAC. She specialises in pricing for small business insurance products, reserving, management information, capital modelling, and profitability analysis.

 

Penny lives with her family in Essex, where she enjoys interior design, playing badminton, and wrangling her new puppy, Rosie.  

Heidi Whitlow

Heidi is a general insurance actuary and data scientist with over 10 years’ experience since qualifying.

 

With a PhD in materials science, Heidi brings a variety of new and established tools and techniques to create bespoke and innovative solutions to actuarial problems. She has previously worked for the likes of Aviva, Zurich, DAS, Generali Worldwide and the Government Actuary’s Department, and also with both EU and non-EU insurance regulators.

 

Away from work, Heidi plays the harp and clarinet and is a keen painter. She also volunteers at the Rye Art Gallery in East Sussex, where she even designed and built a bespoke accounting software program from scratch.
